About Us
We work to dismantle the carceral state through education, smart legislation, advocacy, and empowering the leadership of people directly impacted by the criminal injustice system.
Founded as a state-wide coalition in 2015 and established as a nonprofit in 2019, decARcerate works to affirm human dignity by confronting unjust systems.
We work to dismantle the carceral state in Arkansas through community education, smart legislation, advocacy, and empowering the leadership of individuals personally affected by the criminal punishment system.
DecARcerate envisions a state where communities are safe and caring, individuals who cause harm are rehabilitated and reintegrated into supportive communities, all people are respected and treated equitably across institutions, and systems of exploitation and oppression are replaced with ones that are just and create healing.
Utilizing data, storytelling, artistic expression, and research, we educate Arkansans through public events that center the stories and experiences of individuals who are directly impacted by the criminal injustice system.

Campaign Work
We maintain an ongoing commitment to identify and support criminal justice reform legislation. We imagine a world in which all people are treated with dignity, equity, and justice, and demand it from our elected officials.
Public Policy
Our Court Watch program takes Arkansans into publicly accessible court rooms across the state to witness the harm of the carceral state, shine a light on injustices in the judicial system, and hold judges and prosecutors accountable.
